Long before “digital marketing” was even a phrase, I was in South Africa, selling domain names. Yes, back when the internet was barely a blip on anyone’s radar. We had an appointment setter who’d line up meetings, and we’d walk into businesses and say:


“There’s this thing called the World Wide Web. It’s coming. You need to own your business domain name before someone else does.”


Most people looked at us like we were crazy. But some believed. And those who did? They were ahead of their time.


That was my first lesson in marketing: it’s not just about selling, it’s about helping people see what’s possible before they can imagine it themselves.


Then came BMW. Before email marketing. Before automation. Before social media. Marketing back then was pure experience, car launches, golf days, personal relationships that created loyalty, not just reach.


I went from convincing small businesses they needed a digital future to crafting moments that made people feel something about a luxury brand.


And since then, digital has taken over. Influence has become currency. And AI now generates endless streams of content, but in all the noise, what really cuts through is being authentic.


Why I started a digital marketing business

I started Lena Nami for the ones who don’t always have the loudest voice, or the six-figure ad budget. The not-for-profits doing ten jobs with a team of two. The founders and consultants who are brilliant at what they do, but don’t have time to “play the marketing game.” The changemakers who just need someone who sees them, understands them, and knows how to help them stand out without selling out.


What’s in a name? 

I often get asked why I chose to call my business Lena Nami… And I'm not sure I have ever called this out before, but I chose Lena Nami because I’m still South African at heart. And in Zulu, “Lena Nami” translates to this is me. And when I show up for you, that’s what you get, me. No big agency layers. No overblown retainers. Just honest, strategic marketing, delivered with heart.

But the thing I’m proudest of isn’t the logos or the metrics. It’s the people. The relationships. The founders who finally feel seen. The marketing managers who breathe a sigh of relief because someone actually gets it.


That’s why I choose who I work with carefully. Because I’m not here to make you look like everyone else. I’m here to make you look like you.


So yes, I’m a marketer. But more than that, I’m a storyteller. A strategist. A safe pair of hands when the pressure’s on. A partner who knows that marketing isn’t about shouting the loudest, it’s about connecting the deepest.
